Officials presented two options to the board of trustees at its Dec. 8 meeting.
The overview
The first option for the 2026-27 instructional calendar includes the following:
- Aug. 12: first day of school
- Oct. 14-19: fall break (with PSAT and teacher conferences on Oct. 14)
- March 8-12: spring break
- April 5: FISD day of service
- May 21: last day of school
- Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Jan. 4, Feb. 15, Feb. 29: teacher work days, no school for students
- Aug. 18: first day of school

While it is not set in stone, the district could choose to blend dates from both options to culminate a third draft. A blended option will depend on feedback from district committees, officials said.
Now that the options have been relayed to the board, the district will follow the following timeline:
- Dec. 12: Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee reviews potential drafts
- Dec. 16: District Advisory Committee reviews potential drafts
- Dec. 17: drafts posted publicly for review and feedback
- Jan. 20: school board considers 2026-27 instructional calendar
