Humble City Council named a new chief of police during a May 8 council meeting.

What’s happening?

Dan Zientek—who previously served as the Humble Police Department’s assistant chief—was promoted to the chief position after a unanimous vote from City Council with council member Andy Curry absent.

Zientek will replace retiring Chief Ken Theis, who has led the department since October 2020, beginning June 3.

Theis said he plans to explore his interests outside of law enforcement during his retirement, including taking flight training. He also said he plans to stay involved with the city by joining local committees.


“My career with Humble Police Department has been an extremely fulfilling career,” Theis said. “I really have felt honored to have worked with the department, and the members of the Humble [Police] Department are second to none.”

Zientek joined HPD in June 2022 and has been a police officer since 1991, according to the department’s website.

His previous career experience includes:Theis served as assistant chief of police at HPD beginning in 2017 before becoming chief, as previously reported by Community Impact. He worked at HPD for 42 years.
