Humble Elementary School received a donated Book Nook through a partnership with Joe V’s Smart Shop, officials announced in a Jan. 21 news release. The donation is coming as construction is underway on a new Joe V's Smart Shop location in Humble.
The details
The Book Nook was stocked with a wide selection of brand-new books that students will be able to redeem by using tokens they earn through academic success, good attendance and showing positive behavior, according to the news release.

Officials with Joe V’s Smart Shop, a grocery chain in the H-E-B family of brands, said the Book Nook was donated to support literacy and student success at the campus.
“At Joe V's Smart Shop, education is a top priority,” said Martha Barrera, Joe V's Smart Shop public affairs manager, in a statement. “We believe in making everyone have access to literacy, access to a great education, and a way that we do that is by donating these book vending machines to schools that are nearest to our stores.”
Humble Elementary Principal Veronica Hernandez said the partnership represented more than books.
"It shows our students that their community believes in them and supports their success," Hernandez said in a statement. "Thank you Joe V’s for investing in our Wildcat community and for helping us inspire readers and future leaders one book at a time.”
Some context
Construction on a new Joe V’s Smart Shop in Humble began in January, according to a Sept. 12 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The $9.4 million project will consist of converting a roughly 58,000-square-foot facility into a new space for the grocery store.
While a projected opening date was not included in the filing, construction on the project is expected to wrap up in October.
