New Caney ISD officials announced via the district's website April 6 that due to the coronavirus outbreak the district is canceling prom for all three high schools.

"Along with the need of students and parents to have clarity regarding prom planning, we have taken this action as a precautionary measure and in coordination with community efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19," the statement read.

NCISD has closed all buildings through May 3, and the district is currently set to reopen May 4—but closures could be extended. Proms for at New Caney, Porter and Infinity Early College high schools were scheduled for May 8, May 9 and April 3, respectively, according to the district.

NCISD officials have not provided comments on how the coronavirus could affect graduation for seniors. Currently, graduations are scheduled for May 23, per the district's calendar.
