Looking to try a new restaurant this month in the Katy area? Here are four Katy eateries that have or will open throughout August. One will reopen with renovations from an early 2021 fire.

1. Blue Bird Live Music Restaurant & Bar opened July 30 at 1645 Winding Hollow Drive, Ste. 208, Katy. Blue Bird offers American food and specialty cocktails along with live music. Some menu items include scratch-made vegan roasted cauliflower and sweet potato tacos with a housemade cashew crema and a blackened redfish with mango chutney over a bed of rice. 346-251-5090

2. Freebirds World Burrito will host a grand opening Aug. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at 9910 Gaston Road, Ste. 100, Katy. The first 25 guests in line will receive free burritos for a year, according to an Aug. 1 press release. The restaurant offers customizable burritos, burrito bowls, nachos, quesadillas and more. Freebirds World Burrito has vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. 512-291-7411.

3. Not Your Average Fry, an eatery that takes the typical side item and loads it with toppings, will be dropping into Katy late this summer at 2501 Fry Road, Katy. The restaurant’s menu features options like Every Breath You Take, a box of fries dressed with crispy chicken coated in honey hot sauce and dusted with garlic Parmesan seasoning. A sweeter option at Not Your Average Fry is Strawberry Fields, which is a box of sweet potato fries adorned with strawberries, powdered sugar, strawberry drizzle and whipped cream. Customers can create their own box with items such as beef Philly Cheesesteak, chili, cheese sauce and pico de gallo.

4. Midway Bar-B-Que will reopen at 6025 Hwy. Blvd., Katy, on Sept. 1 after a fire that happened in February 2021.

The restaurant has been serving customers at 6191 Hwy. Blvd., Ste. 302A, Katy, but will close that location Aug. 25 to give staff time to reopen the original location.

Renovations included a third smoker to the new smoke room, expanding the service kitchen, a bakery kitchen, a larger dessert case, improvements to the semiprivate dining room and a redesign of the private banquet room. Midway Bar-B-Que serves different kinds of barbecue, including pork, sausage, chicken and turkey.

During the week the restaurant is closed, it will serve barbecue at Midway Meat Market at 5901 Hwy. Blvd., Katy. 281-391-2830
