Katy ISD’s Partners in Education is asking the community to help families in need this summer by supporting the Food for Families program.

For the first time, the Food for Families program is being expanded to include support for KISD families in need over the summer, according to a Partners in Education press release.

Food for Families is a community initiative that uses monetary donations to purchase grocery store gift cards for KISD students and their families in need during the holidays, and now during the summer, the release said. Cards are distributed to students before school is out with a note of best wishes from the community.

In the 2020 holiday season, Food for Families raised over $60,000. Since its inception in 2002, the initiative has raised over $300,000 and assisted more than 6,300 families, the release said.

Partners in Education is working with KISD junior high schools for the summer launch. The KISD junior high campuses help to identify students for the program, and Partners in Education collects community and corporate donations. The new Food for Families-School’s Out program will benefit those select KISD junior high families in need this summer, the release said.
