Voters elected Susan Gesoff and Dawn Champagne Saturday night to fill seats 6 and 7, respectively, on the Katy ISD board of trustees, according district results.

Gesoff beat out candidate Scott Martin for seat 6 with 3,324 votes, or 60.37 percent.

Gesoff said her experience working as an engineer for 30 years and working as a former KISD teacher will help her address some of the district's greatest needs. Gesoff said she thinks the district should strategically plan to meet the community's needs in the face of decreased state financial support in a growing district.

Gesoff will replace trustee Bryan Michalsky once she is sworn in. Gesoff could not be reached for comment Saturday night.

Dawn Champagne will fill seat 7 on the board after beating candidate Don Massey and earning 3,025 votes, or 53.50 percent.

"Thank you very much for voting for me and I am going to do what I say, a vote for me is a vote for you," Champagne said. "I am going to be here to listen you."

Champagne said her previous experience working in the community through various organizations has helped her gain a broad understanding of the district. Champagne said her top priorities for the district are to improve the safety and security of KISD students and build a stronger relationship with the community.

Once sworn in, Champagne will replace trustee Charles Griffin. Champagne and Gesoff will be sworn in at the next regular board meeting, according to district officials.

All results are unofficial until canvassed. The next KISD board of trustees meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. May 29 at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.
