Katy ISD is closing its COVID-19 testing site because of the dropping infection rates across the region, the district announced May 27.

Since launching in September, the KISD COVID-19 and RediMD Testing Site has offered over 27,520 rapid tests to students, staff and their qualifying dependents to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, according to a news release from the district. The last day of operation for the site will be May 28.

The district will maintain its COVID-19 dashboard and positive self-reporting options.

Shifting the focus from testing to vaccinations, KISD has partnered with Randalls Pharmacy to offer a district location for the organization to provide optional COVID-19 vaccination opportunities to eligible students 12 years of age and older, according to the release.

Due to high demand, Randalls Pharmacy has made three opportunities available to parents interested in having their children vaccinated against COVID-19, said Lance Nauman, director of the KISD risk management department, in the release. The vaccination is available free of charge and is being administered at KISD’s Agricultural Science Center located at 5801 Katy Hockley Cut-Off Road.

The vaccination schedule is as follows:

  • June 9 (second dose for those who received a first dose May 19)

  • May 26 (first dose), June 17 (second dose)

  • June 2 (first dose), June 23 (second dose)

A valid student ID along with a completed parent consent form must be presented. To schedule an appointment and to access the consent form, parents can visit the following link: https://mhealthsystem.com/KatyISD.

KISD students are not required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in order to participate in district activities or programs.
