The city of Katy is beginning the journey to find a new fire chief following the retirement of former Chief Kenneth Parker in early February.
What you need to know
At an April 13 meeting, Katy City Council approved a $22,200 contract with Ure Consulting Group to lead the fire chief selection process.
The item comes after City Council approved Dana Massey as the first female interim fire chief at a Jan. 26 meeting, Community Impact reported. She assumed the role Feb. 2.
The details
According to Ure Consulting Group's proposal, the entire process of the search includes:
- An initial meeting with the city administrator and human resources
- An on-site meeting with Katy Fire Department personnel
- Development of a job posting, professional recruitment brochure and online application process
- Conducting leadership and management questionnaire for top applications
- Selecting three to four semifinalists for the role and completing Zoom interviews
- Coordinating interviews and meet and greets with stakeholders
- Providing a final report for city officials
Going forward
The process is expected to take three months for finalists to be named, per agenda documents.
