Some Lamar CISD students in the Fulshear area will move to new schools in 2026 and 2027.
What’s happening?
At a March 17 meeting, the Lamar CISD board of trustees approved rezoning options ahead of the openings of Slawinski Elementary School in August 2026 and Cantu Elementary in August 2027 in the Fulshear area.

Trustees reviewed 11 options created by demographers and the district’s attendance boundary committee. The committee recommended the board concentrate on walkability, preserving neighborhoods, safety and student-to-teacher ratios, representatives Joey Bridges and Joey Pineda said.
After receiving the ABC’s input, the district made another option based on one of the committee's other highly rated rezoning choices and survey results, said Jonathan Maxwell, executive director of student programs.
The board ultimately chose Option 1 for the 2026-2027 school year, which has students living in Vanbrooke going from Huggins Elementary to Haygood Elementary, moves the northern section of Randle to Slawinski Elementary and the north of Tamarron Parkway from Haygood to Slawinski.
The board also chose Option 1B for 2027-28, which will have students in the southwest portion of the purple track stay at Morgan Elementary. This also alleviates the capacity of every elementary campus in the area, but benefits Randle, Melton and Haygood elementaries the most, Maxwell said.
Maxwell said option 1B helps with the transportation distance for Simonton residents as well as addressing Randle, Melton and Haygood’s capacities.
However, the board will allow a fourth-grade legacy for all rezoning changes made during the meeting.
What they’re saying
Brittany Pineda, a former LCISD employee, asked the board to move forward with either the ABC’s drafted option or Option 1B. As a Simonton resident, Pineda said she worried about the “safe and equitable school access” she and her neighbors were accustomed to.
“I was satisfied with the decision,” Pineda said. “I felt like they heard our concerns and they made adjustments accordingly.”
What else?
The board also approved the rezoning options for Becerra Elementary in Rosenberg, opening in August 2026, and Adams Elementary School, opening in August 2027.
