Walking into The Best Stop Cajun Market feels like strolling through your local grocery store in Louisiana. The shelves are lined with spices, stuffed meats are displayed in fridges, and staff members are packaging fresh boudin and chicken cracklings for customers.
It helps that the majority of staff members are from Louisiana, Marketing Manager Stacy Jacobs said.
The Cajun market was originally established in Scott, Louisiana, nearly 40 years ago, and has since established five other locations, with the Katy location opening in December 2023.
“I am from South Louisiana, I graduated from [the University of Louisiana], so this brand has been a part of my life since I was 8 years old,” Jacobs said. “So, now that I live in Katy, and I’m able to work for a brand that I grew up with, it is just amazing.”
What they offer
The Best Stop Cajun Market operates both as a marketplace and a deli, where customers can shop through products such as signature spices and products the brand has developed and sells.
Customers can also pick up fresh food to take out or dine in, with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available.
Additionally, guests can grab meals to cook at home, such as a pork tenderloin stuffed with cream cheese and bacon, which is General Manager Aaron Smith’s favorite item.
The Best Stop Cajun Market also sells its own signature gumbo, crafted with the same premium meats used by its sponsored cook-off team, Fulshear Crawfish Werx. While each has its own unique recipe, both feature five different meats from the shop's specialty department—the same quality that helped Fulshear win the People's Choice Award at the Cedar Creek Gumbo Cookoff.

The local impact
Smith said the service and hospitality offered at The Best Stop Cajun Market couldn’t be achieved without his staff, with most of them having worked at the market since it opened.
“We are dedicated to the quality of the products, the environment and the ambiance,” Smith said. “We want people to come here and feel like they're going back to a moment or a memory of their childhood at the Scott store.”
