The MKT Bridge has officially reopened after being closed for over a year.
What happened
City officials, residents and community members celebrated the reopening of the MKT Trail Hogan Pedestrian Bridge in the Heights after being closed for over a year due to repairs.
Houston City Council members Joe Panzarella, Mario Castillo and Julian Ramirez attended the opening. Panzarella, who represents the Heights, said the ribbon-cutting was a celebration.
"This ribbon cutting was a celebration of connectivity, walkability and bikeability for all Houstonians,” Panzarella said in a statement. “We must build off this achievement by continuing to invest in active transit across Houston."
Some background
The MKT Bridge closed in February 2025 after it was determined to have severe structural damage, according to Houston Public Works.
The city partially demolished the bridge, which also required the closure of the trails below it. Construction began in February 2026 after months of delay, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, and officially reopened June 11.
A quick note
The MKT Bridge connects pedestrians and cyclists across White Oak Bayou, linking the M-K-T Trail in the Heights with the White Oak Bayou Greenway trail system.
