The office of Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen celebrated the opening of a new Community Resource Office on July 16 at 942 Heights Blvd.

The office will serve as a way to get the community involved with stopping crime, officials said. Residents can fill out police reports, read safety tips, take self-defense classes from the office and get child fingerprint kits, Rosen said at the grand opening.

“The only way we are going to be successful in fighting crime is with everybody’s help,” he said. “We don’t solve crime without the community’s help and assistance. Most of the crimes that get dealt with are led by community tips.”

The new office was cheered by the Houston Heights Association, which works with constable’s office to keep the area safe. For the past several years, the constable’s office and HHA have partnered to create the Houston Heights Constable Patrol Program. Four deputies work 40 hours a week to stop crime through the program.

“I think [the constable’s program] has been a very valuable resource for our community,” said Bill Baldwin, who was at the grand opening on behalf of the HHA. “We understand that we want to be partners with the constable program and the constable’s office, and by solidifying that relationship with the constable’s program, we have brought enhancements to our neighborhood, and we have worked collectively to make our neighborhood safer.”

The initiative is completely community-funded through a paid subscription from Heights residents who opt in. Subscribed residents get a direct phone contact with a dispatcher for faster responses to suspicious activity. The paid subscription also includes vacation watch services, special watches and home security inspections.
