The payment, which was approved after board discussions held Sept. 11, is part of Miles’ contract, according to the news release. The contract allows for up to $190,000 in incentive pay tied to annual results.

According to the news release, Miles was evaluated using two rubrics. On the Superintendent’s Evaluation Rubric, which is based on seven goals and performance metrics, Miles scored 55 out of 60 points.
On the Superintendent Leadership Rubric, a self-assessment measurement, Miles scored 36 out of 40 points, the news release states. Together, his scores totaled 91 out of 100 possible points, translating to roughly 91% of the maximum performance bonus.
Some context
Miles, along with the district’s board of managers, was appointed to lead the district in June 2023 after the Texas Education Agency found cause for the state to take over the district.
According to previous reporting, Miles' base salary is currently $380,000 per year.

In June, the TEA announced it was awarding Miles a five-year extension on his contract with the district.
