After 19 years of business at 1915 Westheimer Road in Houston, The Phoenix is moving.

In August, the brewery and pub will relocate to 1643 Richmond Ave. Vu Truong, owner of The Phoenix, said the move was due to leasing issues.

Truong said it was important for the business to stay in the Montrose area, which is why he chose to purchase a new space on Richmond Avenue. He said The Phoenix’s atmosphere as a pub, sports bar and brewery will also stay the same.

While Truong is doing everything he can to keep the business the same, he said he worries people won’t be able to find the new spot.

“This has been our home for almost 20 years, so what if you're not a regular, but you are coming into town, and then you can't find us?” Truong said. “Not everyone's on social media.”

He said he wants people to understand that the restaurant isn’t closing and that he isn’t planning to have a gap in service.

A closer look

The Phoenix is especially popular among soccer fans, he said. Truong said he’ll keep the bar open at 4 a.m. if a World Cup game is going on that customers want to watch. He said he remembers one year when they set up additional televisions on outdoor fences and turned the parking lot into an extra space for viewing.

“Walking away from the business ... would be hard for me,” he said. “We have a very good, strong community here, so that would be a shame for them if we just kind of lock our doors and said, 'Bye.'”

The new property is set on 2 1/2 lots and will go through three phases of renovations, Truong said. He said the current plan is to open the bar portion of the new location a month or so before the World Cup and move out of the current space in August.

Truong said he hopes to have the last of the renovations completed in the next year or year and a half.
