Houston City Council signed off on the purchase of microchips and other supplies for the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care, more commonly known as BARC Animal Shelter, at a Jan. 4 meeting.

The bid for $315,000—which went to Pet Health Services USA—was received by the city Aug. 11 and will be financed through the BARC's special revenue fund.

The purchase consists of approximately 4,000 preregistered microchip supplies and allows for the option by the BARC to purchase these supplies as needed over a 36-month period.

This comes as the BARC is offering a new-year adoption special of $23 adoption fees for adult dogs.
