Home sales in The Woodlands area follow regional trends in 2023

After seeing historic highs in home sales and prices across the Houston metropolitan region in 2022, the real estate market cooled in 2023, but Realtors in The Woodlands area said it is still a seller's market locally, with cash buyers edging out those limited by higher interest rates on loans.

“The Woodlands is always more insulated than the rest of our area; however, we are seeing [lower sale prices] happen, especially under $1 million, because their price is affected more by the [interest] rates,” said Haley Garcia, broker associate for the Haley Garcia Group in The Woodlands. “Where it is not affecting things is in luxury market or cash buyers. The only challenge there is the lack of inventory.”

Bass Pro Shops to open 4th Greater Houston-area retail superstore in Spring

Officials with Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's announced the opening of its fourth Greater Houston-area destination retail superstore in Spring via a Feb. 14 news release.

According to the release, the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Spring will showcase an array of boat brands and off-road vehicles as well as equipment and clothing for a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing and camping. The storefront will also boast a completely unique, custom design and feature a gift and nature center, murals, a large aquarium and other water features.

Lone Star College chooses 5 candidates for chancellor

The Lone Star College board of trustees selected five final candidates to potentially replace outgoing Chancellor Stephen Head, who is retiring effective Aug. 1, officials announced in a news release July 2.

Hobby Airport expansion could start next year


Changes are coming to William P. Hobby Airport in southern Houston, and they’ll begin this year.

Southwest Airlines, which already has a presence at Hobby, will begin a $450 million expansion as early as next year. The expansion will more than double the number of gates in the western concourse from five to 12, said Jim Szczesniak, chief operating officer for the Houston Airport System.
