Lone Star College-University Park will be launching new paralegal degree paths in spring 2025.

The overview

LSC-UP will offer two options for paralegal studies: an associate of applied science degree and an advanced technical certificate, according to Aug. 1 board of trustees meeting documents. The technical certificate is designed for students who have an associate degree or higher.

“The paralegal studies AAS and ATC prepare students to perform effectively in a variety of legal settings and to adapt readily to changes in the legal environment,” the meeting documents read.

The college system’s board of trustees approved expanding the paralegal offerings to LSC-UP via its Aug. 1 consent agenda, which is made up of multiple items voted on in one motion.

Why it matters

The Texas Workforce Commission predicts 1,335 paralegal and legal assistant jobs on average will be opened annually from 2020 to 2030, according to LSC meeting documents.
