Cy-Fair ISD’s board of trustees heard a presentation from administration officials regarding the proposed 2024-25 calendar for next school year at its Feb. 8 meeting.

Chief Academic Officer Linda Macias presented the calendar as proposed by the district’s calendar committee, which is made up of teachers, parents, administration and other members of the community.

Macias said the committee kept the best interests of the students top of mind at each phase of the process, in addition to state education requirements, community traditions and spring break plans of surrounding school districts.

The backstory

Following the board’s Jan. 18 unanimous approval of the district’s adoption of the District of Innovation plan, Macias said the district had more flexibility when choosing holiday breaks, teacher working days and start/end dates for the school calendar.

Per the Texas Education Code, school calendars must include a minimum of 75,600 minutes for students, 187-day contracts for teachers and inclement weather days built in.
