New cases of COVID-19 in Harris County increased by 450 June 17, marking the third day in a row where new cases surpassed 400 in the county. A total of 189 new cases were confirmed in the city of Houston, while 261 were confirmed in Harris County outside of the city.

The city and county also combined to confirm nine new deaths from the coronavirus June 17, bringing the death toll in the county to 298.

COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to rise in Harris County, with 746 suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients in general ward beds and 333 patients in intensive care unit beds as of June 16, according to the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council.

Both of those tallies are new highs for Harris County. The total COVID-19 patient count is up by 75 from June 15 and up by 340 from one week prior June 9. ICU bed occupancy remains around 90%, with 1,477 out of 1,613 beds occupied and another roughly 300 beds in surge capacity, according to SETRAC.

Of the 18,157 known COVID-19 cases in Harris County, 10,563 are considered active, while 7,296 are known to have recovered.
