Stone Cold Meats owner Sean Stone said although he didn't always plan to work in the meat industry, it has become a rewarding experience.

The family butcher shop run by Stone and his wife, Ami Stone, was founded in 2018 with a location in League City. The location at 13215 Grant Road, Ste. 1800, Cypress, opened in 2021.

The backstory

Stone said when he was a young adult working as a dishwasher at a German restaurant, he had to fill in for one of the butchers who got hurt, which is when his interest in the meat industry started.

As a 16-year-old, Stone worked at small butcher shops in Illinois with owners who helped out their communities.

However, after moving to the Houston area and working as a meat market manager for a large corporation, Stone's values clashed with corporate policies that mandated unsold meat was discarded without considering those in need.

This is when he and Ami decided to take his 18 years of experience in the meat industry to start their own butcher shop.

Helping the community

Ami said Stone Cold Meats gives back to the community by giving a free Thanksgiving meal given to a local family. To ensure the meal goes to someone in need, the Stones ask community members to nominate people that may be in need of assistance.

Another way they give back to the community is with a free brisket burger toy drive in which they request customers bring an unwrapped toy in exchange for a free pack of four 8-ounce burgers. The Stones then donate the toys to Entrusted Houston, an organization that helps meet the needs of foster children.

Ami also said this year they will be working with Cy-Fair Helping Hands, an organization that helps the homeless of Cy-Fair become self-sufficient. Any brisket burgers donated through the toy drive as well as through their own donations will help feed the homeless through Cy-Fair Helping Hands.

Zooming in

Sean said Stone Cold Meats strives to provide the freshest and highest quality of meat. The Stones achieve this by partnering USDA-approved ranchers.

“We really strive to bring in the most socially adept, knowledgeable people in the industry,” Stone said, adding that customers are also educated about the meat they purchase at the butchery.

Meats available at the store include Japanese A-5s, Australian A-9s, pork, chicken, ground beef, lamb chops and brisket burgers. Additionally, the Stones provide customers with free recipes to follow on their website.
