VGXI, a manufacturer of plasmid DNA, celebrated its topping-out ceremony April 19 at the Deison Technology Park in Conroe. The event was hosted by BE&K Building Group and culminated with the raising and placing of the final steel beam for the new structure.

Construction of the production facility is occurring on a 21.5-acre tract of land. The existing land purchase supports multiple expansion phases beyond the initial building, and VGXI also retains first option for an additional 21 acres to support continued future company growth on pace with industry forecasts. Timelines are on track to achieve substantial completion for the building by the fourth quarter of 2021 with the site becoming operational by the first quarter of 2022.

Family Promise of Montgomery County is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year as well as a "renovation celebration," similar to a groundbreaking, June 3 for its new guest center, located at 109 Commercial Circle, Conroe. The nonprofit organization empowers homeless families with children to transition out of homelessness and into stability in 90 days. Family Promise provides shelter, transportation, food, day care and emotional support.

With the new guest center, the organization will be able to host six families at one time at the center overnight instead of relying on congregations and hotels for overnight shelter, according to Executive Director Marilyn Kasmiersky. The renovation includes transitioning a commercial office building into a multipurpose facility including office space for employees, a dining area that will also be used to teach life skills, a break room, six guest rooms with private bathrooms, one host room, a computer lab where parents can search for jobs and participate in virtual job interviews, a laundry room and a playroom. 936-441-8778.
