Montgomery City Council honored the life and public service of Council Member Thomas “Tom” Czulewicz, who died Dec. 30, through a formal proclamation presented during the Jan. 13 meeting.
The impact
Council’s proclamation outlined Czulewicz’s path into local government, noting he previously served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission—from Oct. 24, 2023, until his resignation May 13—before joining City Council in Place 3 on May 13, where he served until his death.
The proclamation also highlighted Czulewicz’s military career, describing a 34-year tenure in the U.S. Navy’s submarine service and noting he retired in 1995 with the rank of commander. It additionally referenced his civilian public service roles and community work, including helping lead the Gift Event Foundation, a nonprofit that collects and delivers donations to support veterans.
