Education foundation members, district administrators and local sponsors visited the district’s 10 campuses to award the Innovative Teaching Grants on Jan. 19, according to the MISD blog post. This year’s grants exceeded the previous year’s by $10,000, MISD Education Foundation Director Tiffany Ortiz said via the post.
“We love surprising our educators and providing them with the tools and experiences they’ve identified to impact student learning,” Ortiz said via the post. “We greatly appreciate the generous support of our Montgomery community partners.”
The impact
MISD staff can apply for the foundation’s Innovative Teaching Grants each fall with ideas to aid student classroom learning. The grants are awarded to applications with “an inventive approach to improve and enrich learning,” according to the post.
The grants will be used for programs and supplies, including:
- College campus visits for MISD students and resources for first-generation college students
- Decodable Readers books for elementary campuses
- Supplies for Montgomery High School’s ceramics program
- A musical theater show for K-5 students across multiple campuses
- Virtual museum field trips for multiple elementary schools
The MISD Education Foundation raises funds for its programs through annual community events, such as the Spring Soiree, which will be held on April 6 at the Margaritaville Lake Resort, located at 600 Margaritaville Park Way, Montgomery.
