Willis ISD voters approved a $143 million bond in 2022 that included funding a new elementary school and middle school. In addition to campus upgrades and future land purchases, the bond also included upgrading the high school's baseball and softball fields.

Current situation

Over a year into the process, district officials said the projects are starting to move forward.
  • A contractor for Middle School No. 3 is expected to be presented and approved by the board of trustees at the Oct. 17 meeting.
  • Land for Elementary No. 7 is undergoing a trade but is expected to still be located within The Woodlands Hills community.
  • The fine arts addition at Lynn Lucas Middle School is in the rebidding process after the former bid came in overpriced.
  • Turf for the Willis High School softball and baseball fields has started being installed.
The 2022 bond also included funds for future land, which included the purchase of a 60.984-acre tract of land near the southeast corner of FM 830 and I-45 in September.

According to previous Community Impact coverage, the land is slated for a potential activity and aquatic center as the district's long-range planning committee considers future needs.
