With two months until election day, here is what is in the May 7 bond propositions called by Willis ISD trustees at the Feb. 9 board meeting, according to the bond presentation given by the district's long-term planning committee. The proposed bond propositions totaling $225 million could result in a tax increase of $0.05 per $100 valuation; the tax rate totals $1.172 currently, according to the district.

Proposition A

Total cost: $143.05 million

Projects include:

  • elementary school No. 7 ($45.61 million);
  • middle school No. 3 ($77.64 million);
  • upgrading the Willis High School baseball and softball fields with synthetic turf ($4 million);
  • a fine arts addition to Lynn Lucas Middle School ($2.42 million);
  • new elementary school playground equipment ($500,000);
  • and future land purchases ($12.87 million).

Proposition B

Total cost: $62.57 million



Projects include:

  • a new football stadium that will increase capacity from 3,500 to 7,500 guests and include a two-level press box;
  • a community room in the sports facility that will be available to the public for rent;
  • and an indoor field house.

Proposition C

Total cost: $19.39 million

Projects include:

  • an aquatic center with 300 elevated seats, a warm-up pool and locker rooms.
