6 things to know in the Richmond area this week, Sept. 18-22

Stay in the know with these events happening in the Richmond area this week, including a Lamar Consolidated ISD board meeting during which the proposed $445 million bond will be discussed, I-69 ramp closures and more.

1. City commission meeting

The city of Richmond will hold its regularly scheduled city commissioner meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the City Hall Annex. Items on the agenda include adopting the proposed 2017-18 budget for the city, adopting the proposed tax rate and ratifying the property tax increase for the 2017-18 budget.

2. TSTC officially reopens after Hurricane Harvey

Texas State Technical College Fort Bend County campus officially opened for the first day of class Monday, Sept. 18 after delaying classes because of Hurricane Harvey, according to a press release. Over 350 students are expected to return to the Rosenberg campus. The new Brazos Center building will be open for the first time Monday as well.

3. More rounds of mosquito spraying for Richmond

The city of Richmond will continue spraying for mosquitoes Monday, Sept. 18. Sprays will occur again Saturday, Sept. 23 and Monday, Sept. 25 and will occur before dusk, according to a press release from the city. In the release the city asked residents to continue to remove standing water on their property.

4. I-69 northbound exit ramp to FM 762 closed Monday

The I-69 northbound exit ramp to FM 762 will be closed the majority of Monday afternoon, according to a press release from the city. “This closure is being made to allow the contractor to pour a cap for the northbound frontage road,” the release stated.

5. Richmond Historical Commission Meeting

The Richmond Historical Commission will meet 8 a.m. Tuesday at the City Hall Annex. Items on the agenda include updates to the historic preservation of downtown Richmond.

6. LCISD board meetings

Lamar Consolidated ISD will hold its regularly scheduled board of trustee’s workshop 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brazos Crossing building. The workshop provides trustees with a chance to ask questions about the agenda for the upcoming board meeting set for Thursday. The district will hold its regularly scheduled board of trustee’s meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brazos Crossing building. Items on the agenda include ratifying contracts relating to Hurricane Harvey that include resolutions regarding school closures as well as an update on the districts $445 million bond slated for November.
