As planning work continues on a project to bring new affordable housing to Stella Link Road, the city of Houston will host a virtual meeting Sept. 19 to provide a recap of efforts so far.

As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, the Houston City Council on March 31 approved the purchase of the 12.2-acre site where the project is being built for $14 million. The land is located at 10301 Stella Link Road, Houston, south of Main Street and east of Willowbend Avenue.

Plans include the construction of 240 disaster-resistant and energy-efficient single-family homes, according to city information. More than half of the homes of the mixed-income development will be reserved for individuals earning 80% of the area median income or less.

The city hosted a series of meetings in May to gather input from the public on the project's design and green space layouts, among other details. According to presentations made at that time, a developer for the project is slated to be selected in October, and new homes could be available to residents between fall 2023 and winter 2024. However, city officials noted the timeline was subject to change.

The Sept. 19 meeting will take place from 6-7 p.m., and those interested can learn more about the project or register to attend here.
