Bellaire continues progress toward wastewater plants initiatives

Bellaire City Council approved an ordinance authorizing City Manager Sharon Citino to execute a new work order for wastewater facilities engineering and support at an April 20 meeting.

How we got here

In September 2023, City Council approved global professional services firm HDR Engineering Inc. to assess the city's wastewater treatment plant and lift stations and develop a capital improvement program to address infrastructure needs at those facilities.

After the assessment, the city moved forward with the demolition of the existing wastewater treatment plant and connection to one of the city of Houston's wastewater treatment plants, as laid out in the Cypress Ditch Project.

What’s new

At the April 20 meeting, City Council approved Work Order No. 5, which includes final design and construction services that can not exceed $822,820.

According to the statement report, the final design services include:

• Basic services (project management, coordination, etc.)
• Electrical design
• Geotechnical design
• Survey services
• Traffic control plans

The report also stated that the ordinance will amend certain appropriations in the Capital Improvement Fund, but that there will be no net change to the fund.
