A number of events are taking place in May in the local area, including a free performance by the Houston Grand Opera at Miller Outdoor Theatre and a Garth Brooks tribute concert in Bellaire.
Party at the Pavilion: The city of Bellaire hosts its monthly outdoor concert, this month featuring the Garth Brooks tribute band, Outside the Fire. Personal coolers are allowed, and food from Lankford's Bellaire outpost will be onsite for purchase.
Texas Sound Meditation with Leala and James: Levy Park will host this self-care event, intended to relieve stress, tension and anxiety with a sound immersion experience. Sound baths are a meditative therapy that use resonant instruments, such as gongs, singing bowls and percussion, chimes, to promote a sense of calm.
Kurt Elling Quartet featuring Danilo Pérez: Arts organization DACAMERA hosts Grammy winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and pianist Danilo Pérez to explore Elling’s catalogue. The artists recently collaborated on a “Secrets Are the Best Stories” project, and Elling will add new lyrics to his compositions.

'Hayv Kahraman: The Foreign in Us" book launch: The Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University hosts a guided tour of the venue's exhibition on the Iraqi-American artist Hayv Kahraman to celebrate the launch of a new book featuring color images and original writing from the artist. Contributing author Miriam Tictktin, a professor of anthropology at CUNY Graduate Center, leads the tour, which is followed by a Q&A.
Black Men Buy Houses: This event, hosted at Community Collective Houston, aims to empower Black men by promoting home ownership and financial literacy.
