As the coronavirus spread continues to decline in Houston, the daily average of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases fell to 672 during the week of Feb. 21-27, according to the Texas Medical Center's Key Takeaways.

The TMC also reported its intensive care units were at 93% capacity, the lowest daily average since December. Meanwhile, positive COVID-19 test result rates fell to 5.2%, more than an 11-percentage point decrease over last month’s average, according to the medical center.

In response to these trends, mandates across Houston are being lifted. Houston ISD officials announced Feb. 28 that starting March 1, wearing a mask within schools, facilities and buses will be optional.

The Greater Houston area hit a milestone this week as the TMC reported its facilities have administered nearly 3 million vaccinations.
