The official preview event for the new Westbury neighborhood library named after local NASA astronaut Shannon Walker is slated for Dec. 16.

According to an update from District K Houston City Council member Martha Castex-Tatum’s office, the 23,260-square-foot space space will be a community hub with a variety of media spaces, private study nooks and a space-themed teen room.

The details

The Dr. Shannon Walker Library will serve the Westbury, Meyerland, Brays Oaks and Hiram Clarke communities. The long-awaited library is meant to serve as a replacement for the Meyer Library, which flooded during Hurricane Harvey.

The library will feature areas for children, teens and adults as well as a meeting room, conference room, computers and a TechLink area equipped with video, music and multimedia technology.
