Star Cinema Grill at the Baybrook Mall, 702 Baybrook Mall Drive, Friendswood, reopens May 8, becoming one of the first movie theaters in the area to open amid the coronavirus pandemic. The business has made several changes to its operations to minimize risk, including reducing capacity in the bar and lounge, allowing customers to order food from an app, sanitizing theaters before and after screenings, and more.

“We take the responsibility of opening right now very seriously," Vice President of Operations John Walsh said in a press release. “We are following all measures put in place by state and local authorities and have gone above and beyond those in most cases. Our guests have been reaching out non-stop since Gov. [Greg] Abbott’s announcement, ... and they are ready to join us again at the movies. Our team members are just as excited to get back to work, and we are taking every precaution to make sure they have a safe environment to return to.”
