League City approves upgrades at 2 parks, renames baseball fields

The second phase, according to city documents, will include a basketball court canopy, two multipurpose sports fields, a fitness court, a detention pond, a gazebo and a walking trail, among other upgrades.

City Council voted unanimously to rename two baseball fields at Chester Davis Sportsplex after the two baseball coaches, both of whom volunteered with the League City Pony Colt Baseball Associations, which organizes baseball tournaments for League City youth.

The proposal to name the fields after Daly, who passed away in December, and Harris, aims to honor their legacy and commitment to the youth of League City, Mayor Nick Long said.

In a letter to City Council, Lynn Davis, founder of the League City Pony Colt Baseball Organization, expressed support for renaming the fields after Daley and Harris. She said what the two did was a “service to our community and youth.”

”The chief service that Harris and Daly provided to these young men are the countless hours of individual lessons delving into each aspect of the game, batting, pitching and fielding, without seeking any financial gain,” Lynn said in the letter.”
