With the Dec. 11 filing deadline passed, dozens of candidates have filed to run for Houston-area state and congressional offices.
In a nutshell
In 2024, Texas will have a March primary election that will be followed by a primary runoff election before the general election in November, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office.
- Dec. 11: Primary election candidate filing deadline
- Feb. 5: Last day to register to vote
- Feb. 20: First day of early voting
- March 1: Last day of early voting
- March 5: Primary election day

Texas House and Senate candidates
Texas also has several statewide offices up for election in 2024, Community Impact previously reported.
