Recycling is back to being operational in League City after a fire put a temporary hold on recycling services.

In a nutshell

Starting Oct. 26, League City resumed taking the contents of residents’ curbside recycling bins to the recycling facility that serves the city.

On Sept. 29, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Environmental Services, the Houston facility that processed League City’s recyclables, suffered a fire, temporarily halting League City’s recycling program.

The backstory

While the facility was closed, League City officials told residents they could still leave recyclables out for pickup but that they would be taken to a landfill, not recycled. Residents also had the option to hold onto their recyclables and put them at the curb once recycling resumed.

City officials apologized for the inconvenience the fire caused.
