Updated 12:16 p.m. March 2:

A new Galveston County election update has reported more votes and still shows Mikal Williams in the lead with 10,602 votes, or 50.25% of the votes.

Opponent Eugene Howard has 10,497 votes, or 49.75% of the votes. Howard did not respond to Community Impact Newspaper's request for a comment about whether he will wait for canvassed results or will call for a recount.

Results are still unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk in the coming days.

With all polling locations reporting, unofficial voting results show Mikal Williams has won the Democratic race for U.S. House District 14 by 71 votes.

As of March 2, Jefferson, Brazoria, Galveston and Orange counties had reported all of their voting results. Results are still unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk in the coming days.

Williams has 50.18% of the votes, or 10,061 votes, and opponent Eugene Howard currently has 49.82% of the votes, or 9,990 votes.

"We're still keeping an eye on it and it's still very close. I'm glad we're in the lead. It goes to show a heartfelt race on both sides, and if I remain in the lead until it's called, it was a great race," Williams said in a call with Community Impact Newspaper on March 2.

Unofficial results also show incumbent Weber is the winner for the Republican primary of the race, with 89.14% of the votes. The candidates will face off in the November election.

The Democratic race continues to be close as of 11 p.m.


Eugene Howard currently has 49.94% of the votes, or 9,783 votes, and Mikal Williams has 50.06% of the votes, or 9,805 votes.

Brazoria and Jefferson counties have reported all of their voting locations, while Galveston County has reported 64 of 66 voting locations. Orange County has not announced their election day results yet.

In the Democratic primary election for the 14th Congressional District, early voting results show a close race for the candidates, according to early voting data from Galveston, Brazoria, Orange, and Jefferson counties.


Eugene Howard received 50.73% of the vote, or 6,233 votes, while fellow candidate Mikal Williams received 49.27% of the vote, or 6,053 votes.

Chambers County is also served within the district but has no voters that live there, according to the county office.

Texas’ 14th Congressional District covers areas of Friendswood, League City, Dickinson, Angleton, La Marque and Texas City, among others.

Results are updated as of 8 p.m. and are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk.
