Polls are open until 7 p.m. tonight in Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties as voters decide on local bond proposals and state constitutional amendments. Katy ISD bond proposal The school district has proposed a $609.2 million bond to build new schools, upgrade existing facilities, implement security and technology upgrades, and purchase transportation equipment. Fort Bend County mobility bond The county has proposed a $218.6 million bond for mobility projects including new roads, road widenings and drainage improvements throughout the county. Among the projects proposed for Precinct 3, which includes Katy, are frontage road segments along the Grand Parkway. Waller County law enforcement center bond The county is proposing a $39.5 million bond to replace its existing jail and sheriff's office, and build new facilities on more than 91,000 square feet. The new jail would double Waller County's inmate capacity and potentially prevent the state from closing its dilapidated existing jail altogether, county officials said. If the bond fails, Waller County expects it will have to house inmates at other county jails starting at an estimated $55 per inmate per day. State constitutional amendments Seven amendments to the state constitution are also on today's ballot, ranging from property tax exemptions and sports team-based foundations to state board office holders.
