Three local transportation projects across Houston neighborhoods like the Heights, Montrose and Downtown are looking to improve how residents move through their cities, including walking, biking and parking. Check out more details about these three local projects.
1. Montrose Parking Study
Project: The Montrose TIRZ board conducted a parking study to hear from residents, business owners and visitors on how parking plays a role in their everyday lives and decisions.
Update: Results were shared in mid-May and showed that about 60% of respondents said parking availability influences whether or not residents frequent a particular location in Montrose.

2. Main Street Promenade
Project: Downtown Houston officials transformed seven blocks from Dallas Street to Commerce Street into a pedestrian-friendly corridor that connects key areas with plaza, walkways and public spaces.
Update: City officials cut the ribbon on the promenade May 30. Key features include tree canopy, outdoor restrooms, more street murals and enhanced pedestrian crossings.

3. MKT Studemont Bridge
Project: City officials closed the bridge in early 2025 that connects pedestrians and cyclists across White Oak Bayou to address severe structural damage and rehabilitate the bridge. The project included partially demolishing and rebuilding the bridge.
Update: City officials, residents and community members celebrated the reopening of the bridge June 11 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
