Montrose TIRZ to look at streetlight audit for neighborhood safety

“Lighting at nighttime brings very important, very much needed safety measures for a safe roadway, for both on and off the street,” Greaney said.

Greaney added that they are in coordination with CenterPoint Energy to provide the TIRZ with all locations of their existing streetlights. This would allow the TIRZ to get a view of all the lighting locations so HR Green can assess the spacing of the streetlights, noting where they are needed, officials said. The total for the audit would be $16,444.

“These results would go on an exhibit and in a small report and be brought back to the PPP committee, and then based on committee decisions, this could spur other capital improvement projects focused on street lighting,” Greaney said.

The board unanimously approved the study during the July 20 meeting. The study is set to begin in August.

In other news

Board members also provided updates on ongoing transportation projects throughout the neighborhood, including Montrose Boulevard and the West Alabama Street reconstruction project.

The Montrose Boulevard project is largely completed, though storm sewer restrictors still need to be installed, Greaney said.

The board also provided an update on the West Alabama Street project, noting that new flashing beacons will be added to the project scope. Three locations will add the flashing lights along West Alabama Street, Graustark Street, Mt. Vernon Street and Garrott Street. The total is expected to cost $9,935 and will be added throughout the duration of the project.

There will also be an open house meeting for the West Alabama reconstruction project Aug. 3. Board members said questions may be submitted up until July 30, and again for two weeks after the meeting.
