Mandell Street, safe school connections projects to begin in October

Construction on Mandell Street is expected to start in late October or early November, Montrose officials said.

At its Sept. 21 meeting,  Montrose Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone officials gave updates on transportation projects, including the Mandell Street project. 

The Mandell Street Improvements project includes:

• Sidewalk replacement with 5-foot sidewalks and ADA-compliant wheelchair ramps

• Milling and overlay of existing deteriorated asphalt pavement

• Roadway restriping

• Replacement of signage as needed

• Improved lighting on the roadway by upgrading streetlights

• Individualized protection plan for trees along the project route

Project manager David Greaney said the plans for the project were resubmitted to the city Aug. 21, and are currently awaiting approval. 

Other projects

Montrose officials also provided updates on other projects, including the Montrose Safe Routes to School Connections Project. According to the TIRZ presentation, construction is expected to start in early October. The project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for students who walk and bike to school. 

The  Cherryhurst sidewalk improvements project is “substantially complete” as of Sept. 3, but work will continue as the contractor addresses ADA-related and other punch-list corrections. It is expected to be fully completed by mid-October.
