Construction will begin this fall on a parks project in the Heights that involves connecting the Missouri Kansas Texas trail with the White Oak Bayou Greenway.
Houston City Council approved the contract for the project at an Aug. 31 meeting in an effort to fill in a missing link, District C Council Member Abbie Kamin said in a press release. The 850-foot connection will also improve safety for people who use the popular hike and bike trails, she said.
“This project creates safe access and greater connectivity between two of our most popular trails in District C,” Kamin said. “This is going to be a fantastic addition to our hike-and-bike trails as we enjoy the beautiful spaces of our district and city. I appreciate all of our partners in this.”
The project involves extending the White Oak Bayou trail from where it currently dead-ends at Studemont Street. The trail will be extended west, under Studemont and over a White Oak Bayou tributary, where it will eventually merge into the existing MKT trail.
