A new restaurant called The Fifth Table Kitchen & Bar held its soft opening in late October on Washington Avenue. The concept blends new American cooking with bold Malaysian flavors, according to its website.
What is it?
Malaysian food is famous for its vibrant cultural fusion, bold spices, rich coconut milk bases and a street food-style culture. At The Fifth Table, chefs blends American and traditional Malaysian dishes. American chef Tina English and Malaysian-born chef Pineapple lead the kitchen.
The menu consists of Malaysian favorites such as:
Golden Kerabu Softshell Crab: Crispy jumbo softshell crab tossed with Malay herbs, pickled mango and papaya, topped with a bright kerabu dressing
Ember-Kissed Curried Beef: Tender flank steak slowly simmered with potatoes in a fragrant curry sauce
Hainanese Chicken: Delicately poached chicken served with fragrant ginger-infused rice, house-made ginger-scallion sauce, chili sauce and savory soy sauce
On the other hand, the restaurant also offers more Americanized dishes such as catfish fillets, braised short rib tacos and lamb shank. Additional menu items include Gyoza, mango prawn, crawfish mac and cheese egg rolls and tofu.
