Construction will begin at Lawrence Park in late September as Houston launches the first phase of a $60 million effort to revitalize 25 neighborhood parks across the city.

City officials, community leaders, project partners and donors will gather at Lawrence Park in late September to celebrate the start of construction, as part of the Let's Play Houston initiative.
Planned improvements for Lawrence Park include new playground equipment and surfacing, better access into the park and connections to the MKT Trail, a fitness area, a paved plaza with seating and water detention, according to Let’s Play Houston’s website.
Mayor John Whitmire will discuss the impact of the investments and the importance of expanding access to quality neighborhood parks for Houston families at the Lawrence Park groundbreaking.
Some background
Let's Play Houston is a collaborative initiative led by Whitmire, the Houston Parks Board and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department that provides improvements at 25 neighborhood parks across Houston.
The parks were selected from more than 180 city parks based in part on existing park conditions and measures of community need. The selected projects span 11 Houston City Council districts.
Something to note
The groundbreaking for Lawrence Park will take place Sept. 24, and construction is expected to continue through early 2027.
Additional projects at the other 24 selected parks are expected to move forward as part of the initiative through 2028.
