Tarrant County: Bond issues pass, Davis wins along with other incumbents

Voters smiled on bond issues in Grapevine, state Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth and incumbents in county offices.

For Grapevine leaders, land purchase and hiring an architect are up next. The city needs to choose and buy property for the new public safety building, for which the sale of $38.6 million in general obligation bonds was approved.

Another $30.1 million in bonds was OK'd for expansion and other work at the Community Activities Center.

Both buildings are about 20 years old and "overburdened," said Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate. "And they do not contain many of the amenities that other cities are building now, such as the indoor water facility."

The city has narrowed the property search for the new building to two sites.

The public safety building will include an advanced emergency operations center and a new detention center.

The activities center will more than double in size to include an indoor pool, a wing for the Senior Activities Center, larger child care space and more.

In Tarrant County races, Davis narrowly defeated Republican challenger Mark Shelton after a bitter campaign.

Sheriff Dee Anderson won re-election, as did county Assessor/Collector Ron Wright and Precinct 3 County Commissioner Gary Fickes.
