The Southlake Public Library is hosting its annual celebration to kick off its summer reading program on May 31 at Rustin Park in Southlake Town Square, 1256 Main St., from 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
The event includes entertainment, an outdoor video game truck, games, prizes, food and appearances from Spiderman and Queen Elsa.
The library's summer reading program, sponsored by Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty and Friends of Southlake Library, encourages families to prioritize reading throughout the summer months.
"When you make reading a part of your daily life, it shows children that reading is enjoyable," said Cynthia Pfledderer, director of Southlake Public Library. "Often times children develop a negative connotation to reading because it is so often associated with homework. When we make it into a family activity, it becomes a pleasurable activity."
