There were hot items on the council meeting agenda April 1 that ended in approval of the second reading of Westin Hotel, giving permission for design and construction at 1200 E. SH 114 to happen as soon as possible, and the withdrawal of of the Harborchase application to build an assisted living facility on Shady Oaks Drive.
The first reading of the hotel on March 18 received strong support from the entire council, enabling the second reading to be swift and without much dispute.
The applicant, Kimley Horn and Associates, Inc., brought a change in the site plan as per the council's request that included a shift in masonry options for an 8-foot solid fence, said Paul Barham, representative for the project.
Council gave unanimous approval of the second reading. Barham said the developer expects to be through the design process and ready for construction by the end of 2014, with an opening in spring or summer 2016.
