Southlake unanimously backs Westin Hotel while Harborchase is withdrawn

Following this agenda item was a revisit to applicant Harborchase's request to build an assisted living facility on Shady Oaks Lane.

The first reading was delivered at the council meeting March 18, with multiple residents speaking against the item during a public hearing. The item was tabled for decision because a full council was not present.

In the April 1 meeting that had few vacant seats in the council chambers, the council heard brief statements by the applicant but ultimately advised the applicant to withdraw because of such adversity by the public as well as the council.

Mayor John Terrell said he approves of the quality and the idea of the facility, but thinks there is a better location in Southlake for it.

"It's been my hope since I moved to Southlake and ran for office that we would become a multigenerational town," Terrell said. "Someday, we're going to have grandparents and great-grandparents living in Southlake and that's going to make this community better."

In a 7–0 decision, the council approved the applicant's withdrawal.
