Residents stand behind local restaurant

Southlake City Council heard the first reading of a proposed expansion to Feedstore BBQ in its meeting April 1, unanimously approving it after several residents stood at the podium and showed support of the local restaurant.

"There's certain things in this community that are holy and that would include schools, cemeteries, churches and Feedstore BBQ," said former mayor and resident Rick Stacy.

William Lafavers, applicant and owner of the restaurant, requested the approval of a zoning change and site plan to accommodate a 1,007-square-foot expansion to the store at 530 and 580 S. White Chapel Blvd. It would allow additional parking and include an outdoor covered patio dining area.

Councilmember Pamela Muller said she appreciates the locally-owned store and what it means to Southlake, but is still on the fence after her concerns about traffic and the residents surrounding the commercial development.

"I'm going to vote for it here on the first reading, but I'm going to go and talk to the individuals that have concerns about it and expansion," Muller said.

Councilmember Randy Willamson is not on the fence and said in support, "We've been a rapidly growing community and the Feedstore is just one of those iconic pieces that gives so much back to the community."

The council approved the first reading 7–0 and the public hearing will be held on April 15.
