New Southlake sidewalk projects considered for 2013

Southlake is considering plans for sidewalks at five places in the city for 2013, and a sixth large project along Southlake Boulevard will start early next year.

Val Lopez of the Texas Department of Transportation said about 13,000 square feet of new sidewalk will go in along Southlake Boulevard from Pearson Lane to Hwy. 114. The $1.3 million project, being constructed by Jagoe-Public Company should be finished in late fall or early winter, he said.

That project is being overseen by TxDOT.

The city budget allocates $400,000 for sidewalks this year. Staff members recommended these projects at a City Council work session Dec. 4:

• The east side of North Carroll Avenue from Federal Way north to DPS headquarters, $44,000.
• Three options along Ridgecrest Drive from Loch Meadows Court south to the intersection with Oak Point Lane; or, connecting with the North Park trail; or to Dove Street, ranging in cost from $70,000 to $320,000.
• On the west side of Carroll Avenue, from La Paloma Court south to sidewalk at Old Union Elementary School, $68,000.
• On the east side of North Carroll Avenue past Carroll Intermediate School, from Hwy. 114 north toward Highland Road, $68,000.
• On the east side of Shady Oaks Drive from Bicentennial Park north to Love Henry Court, $31,000. The council told staff to talk to neighbors about the Ridgecrest Drive options and return with recommendations.
