Groundbreaking set for Southlake's Community Recreation Center

The groundbreaking of Phase 1 of Southlake's Community Recreation Center will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 27 at Bicentennial Park, 315 Shady Oaks Drive, Southlake.

Phase I includes a senior/event/wedding center, community rooms, conference meeting space, amphitheater and a catering kitchen. Phase II plans include activity areas such as a fitness center, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor turf spaces, an aquatics center and a weight room.

Phase 2 will include spaces for fitness, performance training, gymnasium, indoor jog/walk track, indoor aquatics, indoor playground, party rooms, early learning classroom, child watch and multipurpose classrooms for programs.

The grand opening for Phase 1 is anticipated for December 2015.

Funding for Phase 2 requires voter approval. In May 2015, Southlake voters will be asked to consider re-purposing an existing sales tax revenue source (70-75 percent of which is funded by non-Southlake residents) to construct and to offset a portion of the operating costs of the facility. If approved, Phase 2 construction would begin in fall 2016.
